Crystal Palace stun Liverpool in penalty shootout to claim Community Shield

Crystal Palace are the winners of the Community Shield after edging Liverpool in a dramatic penalty shootout at Wembley.
Liverpool made a flying start when new signing Hugo Ekitike opened his account just four minutes in.
Palace responded 13 minutes later through Jean-Philippe Mateta’s penalty.
Arne Slot’s men regained the lead in the 21st minute when Jeremie Frimpong’s cross sailed past Dean Henderson, just as Liverpool fans were paying tribute to late Diogo Jota, who famously wore the No. 20 shirt.
With time running out, Ismaila Sarr struck a superb equaliser to force penalties, where Palace held their nerve to seal the first silverware of the season.
Liverpool missed three spot kicks, including one by Mohamed Salah, while Palace managed to slot in three, missing just two to seal the win.
The match comes as a boost for Palace who face Chelsea in the opening weekend of the Premier League on August 17.
