“Corper Raye’s certificate withheld due to missed clearance, not for criticizing Tinubu” – NYSC

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has broken silence over the viral case of Corper Raye, whose certificate was allegedly withheld despite completing her mandatory service year.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the scheme dismissed claims that the action was linked to her criticism of the government, insisting that disciplinary reasons were behind the decision.
CLARIFICATION ON NON-ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF NATIONAL SERVICE TO CORPS USHIE RITA UGUAMAYE, STATE CODE NUMBER LA/24B/8325, BY THE NYSC
The NYSC Management wishes to clarify misleading information circulating on social media regarding Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, State Code number LA/24B/8325.
Contrary to false claims that she was denied a Certificate of National Service (CNS) due to critical remarks about the government, this assertion is entirely unfounded and false in its entirety.
Rita is among the 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service (CNS) were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a decision that aligns with the NYSC Bye-Laws.
It is important to note that this extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.
The NYSC Management thus urges the public to approach this matter with understanding, as extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be politicized.
The NYSC Scheme remains committed to discharging its mandate, in line with the dictates of the constitution.

Raye, whose full name is Ushie Rita Uguamaye, served in Lagos State and became known after a viral video in which she lamented the rising cost of living in the country.
On Saturday, she took to Instagram to allege that she was denied her certificate during the collection exercise, accusing her Local Government Inspector of deliberately refusing to clear her despite her presence at the April clearance.
The incident has drawn national attention, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar publicly condemning the NYSC’s action, describing it as “unacceptable” and calling for immediate justice for Corper Raye.
Similarly, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore weighed in, criticizing the scheme for what he termed a “gross injustice and vowed to fight for justice on her behalf.
As of press time, Raye maintains her innocence, insisting she complied with all clearance requirements, while the NYSC says its decision was purely procedural.
