Corper laments rising cost of living in Abuja, says allowance is no longer enough

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member expresses frustration over the increasing cost of living in Abuja, particularly the rising prices of food items.
In a video shared on social media, the corps member complained about the price of tomatoes, claiming that ₦500 could only purchase five pieces at a local market.
The corper said the experience left them shocked and struggling to keep up with daily expenses.
The visibly frustrated youth corps member lamented that the monthly allowance, popularly known as “allawee,” is being consumed almost entirely by feeding costs, leaving little or nothing for other needs.
According to the corper, serving in Abuja has become financially challenging due to the high cost of basic necessities.
Her words …
“Guys what exactly is happening in Abuja that I don’t know?! I’m just coming back from the market where I went to get stuff to cook. Guys tomatoes 500 was just 5 pieces. Does it mean that each tomato is 100 Naira? You guys are not making life easy for Corpers in Abuja. My only mistake was to come and serve in Abuja. I don’t even have any savings anymore. All my allawee has finished on food and I have to eat of course, I’m tired I wan go back village….”
