Confirmed: Leipzig tie down U20 Nigerian prospect Sani until 2031

RB Leipzig have officially completed the signing of Flying Eagles winger Suleiman Sani from Slovak top-flight side AS Trenčín, securing the 19-year-old on a long-term contract that runs until June 30, 2031.
The Bundesliga club confirmed the deal on Tuesday, announcing that the highly rated winger will wear the number 18 shirt as he joins Leipzig’s expanding pool of young attacking talents.
Club backs Suleiman’s development profile
RB Leipzig’s Managing Director for Sport, Marcel Schäfer, said the club moved decisively to secure the Nigerian due to his strong development profile and long-term potential.
“We’ve signed a highly talented young winger in Suleiman Sani. He has an exciting profile and all the attributes needed to take the next steps in his development at RB Leipzig,” Schäfer said.

“He mainly operates on the left, has plenty of pace, is difficult to knock off the ball thanks to his physicality and likes to run in behind. He also works hard without the ball and shows the right attitude.”
Schäfer added that the timing of the transfer was strategic, noting that Leipzig acted early to secure the player on a permanent basis ahead of the summer window.
Suleiman: ‘A big step in my career’
Suleiman, who represented Nigeria at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, described the move as a major milestone and praised Leipzig’s reputation for developing young players.
“Moving to RB Leipzig is a big step for me and something I’m extremely proud of,” he said. “I’m especially impressed by the way the club develops young players, puts trust in them and supports them in a targeted way.”
“I’m looking forward to learning every day in this highly professional environment, continuing to develop and giving everything for the team. The style of football here suits me very well.”
Next phase in the Bundesliga
Leipzig plan to integrate Suleiman gradually, giving him time to adapt to the Bundesliga’s demands.
