Christantus Uche removed from Crystal Palace Conference League squad

Christantus Uche has been left out of Crystal Palace updated squad for the UEFA Conference League.

The decision represents a setback for the 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Palace on loan from Getafe CF last summer with expectations of playing a prominent role.

Limited role despite appearances

Uche has featured in 21 matches across competitions this season, but the majority of those appearances have come from the bench. His only starts have been in domestic cup fixtures and in the Conference League.

Head coach Oliver Glasner has largely preferred alternative attacking options in Premier League fixtures.

Palace reinforced their forward line heavily, bringing in players including Brennan Johnson and Jørgen Strand Larsen, further increasing competition for places.

The latest squad revision confirms that Uche has now been excluded from the European list, with new additions replacing him.

The omission comes despite his contribution of two goals in four Conference League appearances, including a notable strike against Finnish side KuPS during the group stage.

Uncertain future

Uche’s loan agreement reportedly includes a conditional obligation-to-buy clause triggered by 10 starts.

With only three starts so far and limited fixtures remaining, reaching that threshold appears unlikely.

Unless circumstances change, he is expected to return to Getafe at the end of the campaign.

There is also uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation at Palace, with Glasner set to depart. José Bordalás, who previously worked closely with Uche, has been linked with the role.

Should that appointment materialise, it could alter the midfielder’s prospects.
