Cheque Biography: Early Life, Career, Songs & Net Worth

Akinbi Bamidele Brett (born March 23, 1995), professionally known as Cheque, is a Nigerian rapper and performer. He ascended to mainstream prominence with his 2020 hit “Zoom”.

In 2021, he and Fireboy DML won Best Duo African Hip-Hop at the All Africa Music Awards. He is presently signed under Phyno’s Penthauze label.

Cheque was born on March 23, 1995, in Ondo, Nigeria’s southwestern state, and grew up in Ondo’s cities. Cheque graduated from one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, located in Osun State. He earned a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering from a tertiary university.

Career

Cheque began his career as a musician while still an undergraduate at the institution, going under the stage name Kyle B and specialising in Gospel hip hop. Cheque attended the same school as Blaqbonez, among others.

Kyle B produced Hennessy Cypher (Part VI), which featured Dark Poet, Kursor, Blaqbonez, Toosleek, and Eclipse. While gaining notoriety in college as Kyle B, he released an extended play (EP) called Super Adventure Crew.

In February 2019, Phyno noticed him and instantly offered him a recording contract with Penthauze Music.

In March 2019, Cheque released an introductory song called “Nyem Space,” which was a collaboration with one of the record label’s bands.

Cheque’s music style incorporates afrobeat into rap, trap, R&B, and other genres. While still signed to Penthauze Music, he released “Jekasoro” (a Yoruba phrase meaning “Let’s talk”), “Pain Away”, and “Abundance” in June.

The rave of the moment act gained popularity after being launched as a new act by Phyno on his social media sites.

Kyle B, better known as Cheque, released the five-track EP S.O.O.N EP in 2015. It included DML (now known as Fireboy DML), Chinko Ekun, and Zamora. He was formally joined to Penthauze in January 2019, and he appeared on the collective music “Nyem Space”, which also included Rhatti and Nuno, whom Phyno had recently signed.

In February 2020, he appeared on Olamide’s 999 EP single “Warlord”. In July 2020, he launched his debut EP in Penthauze music, Razor, which featured the smash single “Zoom”. He later collaborated with Davido and Wale on a remix of “Zoom”.

Cheque collaborated with Olamide on the track “LOML” (Love Of My Life) in September 2021, and his debut studio album Bravo was released on September 24, 2021.
