Chelsea told to re-sign Guehi to boost title hopes

Chelsea have been tipped to mount a serious Premier League title challenge this season if they bring back former defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, amid Levi Colwill injury.

The call comes after Colwill was confirmed to miss a large chunk of the new season starting this weekend, following an ACL surgery.

Recall manager Enzo Maresca confirmed central defence is now a “priority” in the transfer market, describing Colwill as “a fantastic player” whose absence will be keenly felt.

TalkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham believes Guehi’s return could prove all important.

“If Chelsea go and get Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace, I think Chelsea probably win the league,” he said, adding that strengthening the backline is essential to close the gap at the top.

Guehi, 25, is in the final year of his Palace contract and could be sold to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Chairman Steve Parish admitted the club may have to cash in, noting previous bids had been turned down due to timing and squad concerns.

The England international, who played 34 league games last season and lifted the FA Cup with Palace, spent 14 years at Chelsea’s academy and made two senior appearances before moving to Selhurst Park in 2021.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have already spent over £240m on eight new players this summer, including defenders Mamadou Sarr and Jorrel Hato, though Sarr has been loaned to Strasbourg.
