Chelsea £55m deal for Jamie Gittens accepted, Medical Scheduled

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign winger Jamie Gittens in a £55 million deal, with the 20-year-old set to undergo a medical in London this week.

The Blues had identified Gittens as their top target to replace Jadon Sancho, who returned to Manchester United following his loan spell.

Dortmund had earlier rejected a £42m bid, holding out for closer to £60m before settling on the £55m offer.

Gittens has agreed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, having verbally committed earlier this month.

However, he will be ineligible for the remainder of Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign, having already featured in the competition with Dortmund.

The move comes as Chelsea look to strengthen their attacking options amid uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk, who remains provisionally suspended after a failed drugs test and pending FA proceedings.

Gittens will become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo, and defender Mamadou Sarr.

Midfielder Andrey Santos has also rejoined the squad after a loan stint at Strasbourg. Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian is expected to join after the Club World Cup.

Chelsea are now targeting a versatile forward next, with Brighton’s Joao Pedro high on the shortlist.

They are also monitoring Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Mohammed Kudus (West Ham).

An additional defensive signing has also not been ruled out.
