‘Can’t wait to get going’ – Joe Aribo’s first words as Leicester City player

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has expressed delight after completing a loan move from Southampton to Leicester City for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

The 29-year-old says he is eager to make an impact at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes aim to improve their Championship standing.

Fresh start at Leicester

“I’m buzzing. For me, it’s amazing to have got it done and I just can’t wait to get going,” Aribo said after finalising the deal at Leicester’s training ground in Seagrave.

The midfielder, who struggled for playing time at Southampton this season, believes the move offers him the perfect opportunity to regain form and consistency.

“I just wanted a change of scenery, to get back playing, and be at my best again. It’s been a difficult season with not much playing time,” he added.

Adapting and contributing

Aribo also spoke about his versatility and how he hopes to contribute to Leicester’s campaign.

“I’m someone who’s willing to take risks, exciting on the ball, and I’ll try and pop up with a few goals as well. I always joke with my friends that I can play anywhere,” he said.

He highlighted his preferred positions as central midfield or a No.10 but insisted he is adaptable to the manager’s tactical needs.

Aribo is confident Leicester’s squad has the quality to improve in the league and is optimistic about what they can achieve together.

Eager to join the fans

Reflecting on previous matches at King Power Stadium, Aribo is excited to experience the club from the other side.

“It’s so important for me to bring that joy. I want to be able to feel that atmosphere but on the right side of the coin,” he said.

He also revealed that conversations with Super Eagles teammates Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi influenced his decision to join the Foxes.

“When I used to go away on internationals, Kelechi was always making jokes and letting us know how good the Club is,” he noted.
