Caleb University names Folu Adeboye as new chancellor

Caleb University has appointed Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, as its new Chancellor.
The announcement was made on Monday in Lagos, marking a fresh chapter in the institution’s leadership and ceremonial governance.
Appointment follows honorary doctorate
The appointment came shortly after Adeboye was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) at the university’s 15th convocation ceremony.
According to the institution, her new role will involve presiding over convocation ceremonies, formally conferring degrees on graduating students, and serving as the ceremonial head of the university.
University officials described the development as a milestone, noting that the position of Chancellor is symbolic but influential in shaping the image, values, and external relations of the institution.
University leadership reacts
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, said the university views Adeboye’s emergence as Chancellor as a strategic boost to its moral and academic vision.
He noted that her long-standing involvement in faith-based leadership, counselling, and mentorship aligns with the institution’s emphasis on character-driven education.
Similarly, the Registrar, Mr Mayokun Olumeru, said the university was honoured by her acceptance of the role, describing her as a figure associated with discipline, service, and ethical leadership.
During the same ceremony, Caleb University graduated a total of 1,924 students across various programmes.
The cohort included 96 First Class graduates and 22 doctoral degree recipients, reflecting the institution’s expanding academic footprint.
