BREAKING: 4 River Reps members officially dumps PDP, joins APC

Four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move comes barely a week after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara joined the ruling party, signalling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

The lawmakers who crossed over to the APC are Manuchim Umezuruike, representing Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa of Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency; Awake-Inombek Abiante for Andoni/Opobo Federal Constituency; and Boma Goodhead, representing Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.

Political analysts say the defections underscore a growing realignment among Rivers State politicians, following recent changes at the state level, and hint at further shifts ahead.

The political tension in the state has been ongoing since March 18 when President Tinubu declared emergency rule in Rivers over prolonged instability.

The declaration led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Assembly for six months.

However, the emergency rule was eventually lifted on September 17, 2025.
