“Borno spent ₦100bn on security this year” – Zulum reveals

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has opened up on the massive cost of tackling insecurity, revealing that his administration has spent about ₦100bn this year alone to improve security across the state.
Zulum disclosed this on Thursday, December. 4, during a visit to the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, at his palace in Uba town, Askira/Uba LGA.
He explained that the visit was to assess the security situation in the area, lamenting that persistent insecurity had forced contractors to abandon major road construction projects.
“Security is important; without it, there would be no peace. I have plans to construct roads, but no contractor will want to come down and work here. That’s why I’m establishing a quarry site in Gwoza and purchasing 100 trucks so that our road maintenance agency can construct roads,” he said.
The governor added that the state could have channelled the ₦100bn into education, health and other development projects if peace had been fully restored.
He assured residents that road construction would commence soon, alongside new plans for higher education institutions, computer centres and more.
Responding, the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Mamza, commended the governor for his efforts despite the insecurity challenges.
“You’ve done a lot for us with many projects. If not for you, we would be suffering. We will continue to pray for lasting peace in Borno and the entire country, Emir said.”
Zulum’s revelation reflects the heavy financial toll of insecurity on development in Borno, even as the state continues pushing for lasting peace.
