Boniface makes list of stars with declining market value
Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has joined the likes of Phil Foden and Vinícius Jr. among elite footballers whose market values have taken a major dip in 2025, according to data from Transfermarkt.
A player’s market value is influenced not only by on-pitch performances but also by factors such as age, injury record, contract duration and overall form.
With just over two months left in the year, several high-profile names have seen their stock fall.

Foden, Vinícius Jr. lead the list
Manchester City’s Phil Foden, who was the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season, has seen his valuation plunge from €140 million to €80 million, a massive €60 million drop following a lacklustre 2024/25 campaign where City finished third.
Similarly, Vinícius Jr., once ranked second best player in the world and valued at €200 million, has dropped to €150 million amid a dip in form following Kylian Mbappé’s arrival at Real Madrid.
The Brazilian’s reduced influence has seen him lose ground in global rankings.

Injury setbacks hit Gavi, Rodri and Camavinga
Barcelona midfielder Gavi endured nearly a year on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury and has since seen his value tumble from €80 million to €40 million.
Meanwhile, Ballon d’Or winner Rodri’s own ligament injury cost him 53 games, pulling his value down to €90 million from €130 million.
Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga also suffered from recurring injuries and limited minutes, leading to a €30 million drop from €50 million.
Boniface among the biggest losers
After an explosive debut season at Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface’s form was halted by injury, losing his starting role to Patrik Schick. His tally dropped from 21 goals in 2024 to just 11 this year.
A potential move to AC Milan collapsed over injury concerns, forcing a loan switch to Werder Bremen, where he’s yet to rediscover top form.
His market value has now plummeted to €20 million, down from €45 million last year, a €25 million decline.
Other notable declines
Martin Ødegaard – down from €110m to €80m after a below-par season and ankle injury.
Bernardo Silva – dropped to €28m from €32m due to a sharp fall in goal contributions.
Dušan Vlahović – down to €35m after his poorest domestic return since 2021.
James Maddison – currently valued at €35m after a cruciate ligament injury curtailed his Tottenham run.
