Bayelsa Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo dies after sudden collapse in office

Bayelsa State deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reportedly passed away on Wednesday after collapsing in his office.

Sources at the Government House said the incident happened around 1:30 pm. Staff rushed to his aid after he slumped without any warning.

A top official who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “He slumped without warning. Before help could reach him, his condition had already worsened.”

Rushed to FMC Yenagoa, Confirmed Dead

Ewhrudjakpo was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa.

Doctors reportedly confirmed him dead minutes after arrival despite efforts to revive him.

As news of his passing spread, security operatives tightened access around the hospital to manage the surge of senior officials arriving to verify the development and pay early condolences.

Suspected Cardiac-Related Emergency

Preliminary findings point to a possible cardiac-related emergency. Hospital authorities have yet to release an official medical report.

Colleagues described the late deputy governor as a tireless public servant who often pushed himself beyond limits.

One senior civil servant noted he was known for long hours and heavy workload.

Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo previously served as a federal lawmaker before becoming deputy governor.

He was considered a strong pillar in the state administration and a major voice in policy matters.

A post shared on X captured the mood of many Bayelsans, calling his death “a painful and unimaginable loss” and adding that his commitment to service leaves “a huge void in government and in the hearts of the people.”
