“Barrister are you single?” – Lawyer shares surprising experience during interview with federal offense suspect at Kirikiri

A Nigerian lawyer, @ChisomAgbafor, has stirred reactions online after recounting an unexpected encounter during a visit to Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos.

According to her post on social media, she went to the facility to interview a man facing serious federal charges.

She said she expected the suspect to show fear, anxiety, or emotional distress after she explained the gravity of the allegations and the possible legal consequences.

However, the interview took an entirely different turn.

Instead of expressing concern about his case, the suspect reportedly shifted focus to the lawyer’s personal life, asking her, “Barrister, are you single?”

Reacting humorously to the moment, Agbafor expressed disbelief at the encounter, noting that her legal career has exposed her to many unexpected situations.

“I went to Kirikiri today to interview a guy facing serious charges for a federal offense.

I expected panic, fear maybe even tears after explaining the possible outcome.

But no. He’s more worried about my relationship status, he asked me:
“Barrister, are you single?”

Omoh! This lawyer work ehn, I’ve seen too much”
