Medical and paperwork still to be completed

The final discussions between Liverpool and PSG focused on the structure of the deal, with both clubs now closing in on an agreement.

Documents still need to be exchanged before Barcola can complete his move, while the winger is expected to undergo his medical this weekend.

PSG had previously valued Barcola at around £145m, but Liverpool have managed to negotiate a significantly lower fee for a player they have pursued throughout the summer.

Barcola set to become Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing

If completed, Barcola will become Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing, behind only Alexander Isak, who joined the club from Newcastle for a club-record £125m last summer.

The French winger joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 and has developed into one of the club’s leading attacking players.

His arrival would give Liverpool another major attacking option and could also have a knock-on effect on the future of Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo could leave as Tottenham and City circle

Barcola’s signing could open the door for Gakpo to leave Anfield, with both Tottenham and Manchester City interested in the Netherlands international.

Liverpool are also looking to add another winger before the transfer deadline, with Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr now their preferred target after negotiations with Brighton over Yankuba Minteh proved difficult.
