Barcelona reportedly sent contract renewal documents to Araujo midst departure claims

Barcelona are keen to secure the future of defender Ronald Araujo following speculation surrounding his potential departure from the club.

Despite interest from Bayern Munich and other clubs, Barcelona are ready to retain the Uruguayan center-back.

Before now, there were reports suggesting that the Catalan club would entertain offers for Araujo nearing €100m.

However, they are now engaged in contract negotiations with Araujo to improve his current deal and extend it beyond 2026.

According to Sport, President Joan Laporta is leading efforts to renew the player’s contract.

The 24-year-old, who is said to be willing to stay at Barcelona, seeks an improved contract worth his value.

Football Espana reports that Laporta met with Araujo’s agents and Sporting Director Deco on March 6 to discuss the renewal.

Documents outlining the offer have also been sent to Araujo and his representatives.

While negotiations are still ongoing, Barcelona could consider selling players like Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde to generate funds.
