“Avoid bad friends” — Man allegedly got poisoned during farewell party ahead of his trip abroad

A Nigerian man has narrated a troubling experience that disrupted his long-planned trip abroad, leaving him to rebuild his life from scratch.

In a personal account shared online, the man recalled how he had spent years saving money and preparing for relocation before an unexpected illness altered everything.

Sudden Illness After Farewell Gathering

According to his account, he had successfully secured his visa and was set to travel within two weeks. In celebration, he organised a farewell gathering with seven close friends and his girlfriend, now his ex.

The group reportedly lodged in a hotel, where they ate, drank, and spent the night together in what was meant to be a joyful send-off.

However, just four days after the gathering, he began to experience severe body pain. Initially dismissing it as a minor illness, he said he took medication, but his condition worsened daily.

Soon, the pain became so intense that he could no longer stand, prompting his family to rush him to the hospital.

Medical Tests Yield No Diagnosis

The man revealed that he spent three days in one hospital, where doctors were unable to identify the cause of his illness. He was later transferred to another hospital, but medical examinations still failed to produce a diagnosis.

After two additional days, he was discharged, with doctors advising his family to explore alternative solutions as no traceable illness had been found.

This development, he said, caused serious concern for his parents, who began seeking help elsewhere while also spending the money he had saved for his trip abroad.

Traditionalist Claims Poisoning

In search of answers, the family eventually consulted a traditionalist, who reportedly claimed that the man had been poisoned.

According to the man’s account, the traditionalist warned that a delay of two more days could have been fatal. Treatment was said to have commenced immediately, with a recovery period estimated at three weeks.

Despite gradual improvement after about two weeks, the man’s recovery timeline meant he missed his scheduled flight.

Lost Opportunities and Fresh Start

He stated that by the time he regained his strength, his visa, travel plans, and financial investments had all been lost. Prior to the incident, he had sold most of his belongings in preparation for relocation.

As a result, he was forced to start over and move back in with his mother.

Reflecting on the experience, the man said he is still working to rebuild his life and urged others to be cautious about the company they keep, warning against the dangers of bad friendships.
