Atletico monitor Lookman as Atalanta cut valuation

Atletico Madrid are on alert after Atalanta reduced their asking price for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman amid growing interest from across Europe, according to reports.

The Nigerian international has been one of Atalanta’s standout performers in recent seasons, but his future in Bergamo is again under scrutiny as the club reassesses its position ahead of the transfer window.

Atalanta lower demands

Atalanta were firm last summer, blocking Lookman’s exit after Inter Milan showed interest.

The Serie A side reportedly insisted on a €50 million release clause, a figure Inter were unwilling to meet, forcing the forward to remain at the Gewiss Stadium.

However, transfer specialist Ekrem Konur now reports that Atalanta have lowered their valuation to around €35 million.

The reduction is believed to reflect a combination of factors, including Lookman’s relatively quieter output this season and the player’s contractual situation.

The 28-year-old has still delivered consistently overall for Atalanta, registering 55 goals and 27 assists in 136 appearances since joining the club.

Atletico interest resurfaces

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid remain long-term admirers of Lookman and are assessing the possibility of a move.

Diego Simeone’s side value the winger’s versatility, pace and direct attacking style, which could fit well into their system.

However, no formal approach has yet been made to Atalanta or the player’s camp, with Atletico still weighing their options as they plan squad reinforcements.

Competition building across Europe

Atletico are not alone in tracking Lookman’s situation. Turkish champions Galatasaray are also said to be working behind the scenes to explore a potential deal, although talks have yet to progress to an advanced stage.

With around 18 months left on Lookman’s current contract, Atalanta are conscious of the need to act decisively.

Failing to sell in the near future could weaken their negotiating position and raise the risk of losing the player on reduced terms later on.
