Atiku sends reminder to Tinubu as deadly attacks claim dozen lives in Benue

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent wave of violent attacks across parts of the country.
In a strongly worded statement, Atiku expressed concern over what he described as the government’s failure to prevent recurring attacks, despite earlier assurances from the presidency.
Rising insecurity sparks concern
Atiku referenced the recent violence in Benue State, where more than a dozen people reportedly lost their lives just days after the President assured Nigerians that such incidents would not happen again.
He said the situation raises questions about the effectiveness of current security measures and the government’s commitment to protecting citizens.
The former presidential candidate also highlighted reports from a community in Nasarawa State, where families were forced to flee their homes on foot due to fears of impending attacks.
Fresh attacks deepen worries
According to Atiku, the security situation is further worsened by another attack recorded over the weekend in Kaduna State.
He warned that the repeated incidents across multiple states point to a broader national security challenge that requires urgent attention.
“The primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives and property and the promotion of the welfare of citizens,” he stated.
Call for urgent action
Atiku urged President Tinubu to move beyond promises and take decisive steps to address the growing insecurity.
He criticised what he called “hollow rhetoric” and stressed that the time has come for practical action.
“Enough of these hollow rhetoric, Mr. President. It is time to fold your sleeves and get to work,” he said.
The former vice president also extended his condolences to families who have lost loved ones in the attacks, noting that the nation shares in their grief during this difficult period.
