Arsenal vs Man City: Gabriel labels Haaland toughest rival ahead of Carabao Cup final

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has described Erling Haaland as his “toughest opponent,” highlighting the intensity of his ongoing battles with the Manchester City striker.

The pair have developed a fierce rivalry in recent seasons, marked by physical duels and heated exchanges during matches.

Respect amid fierce rivalry

Despite past confrontations, Gabriel acknowledged the competitive respect between both players.

“I enjoy every game, every striker. It is my job, so I like to battle. But he is a top player and, of course, I think he likes to play against me as well. I think it’s fun. We enjoy it,” he said.

When asked if Haaland stands out among his opponents, Gabriel was direct: “Yeah, of course.”

Their clashes have included flashpoints, with Haaland once throwing the ball at Gabriel during a goal celebration, while the Arsenal defender responded with an animated reaction in a return fixture.

Focus on silverware

Gabriel also pointed to his current form, describing this season as his best so far.

“This season is my best season. I need to stay humble and I just need to keep going… let’s see what happens in the end,” he said.

Attention now turns to the Carabao Cup final, where Arsenal aim to secure silverware against a City side led by Pep Guardiola.

“We know it is going to be a big battle. We are ready for this,” Gabriel added.

Arsenal remain in contention across multiple competitions, and a strong defensive performance against Haaland could prove decisive in their pursuit of trophies this season.
