Arsenal forced to pay in excess for Real Madrid target Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have reportedly reached a pre-agreement with Real Sociedad to sign midfielder Martin Zubimendi for €70 million, €10 million above his €60 million release clause.

The deal will be paid in three instalments and becomes effective from July 1, aligning with Sociedad’s new fiscal year.

The 25-year-old, long linked with a move away from his boyhood club, appears set on a summer exit after previously resisting overtures.

While English sources believe the deal is effectively complete, reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid have made a late push and that Zubimendi remains open to a proposal from the Spanish giants.

However, Madrid would prefer to negotiate a lower fee and may consider offering players or loan deals to reduce the financial outlay.

They are also reportedly unwilling to match the €10 million annual salary Arsenal have tabled.

With personal terms already agreed, Arsenal’s structured approach gives them a clear lead in the race, pending any final move from Real Madrid in the coming weeks.
