Arsenal confirm £75m signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle
Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a £75m deal, adding the Brazil international to their squad as they look to strengthen their title-winning team.
The 28-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months after making it clear earlier in the summer that he wanted to join the Premier League champions.

Guimaraes admitted leaving Newcastle was difficult after more than four years at the club, but said he felt ready for a fresh challenge.
Guimaraes makes Arsenal move
“This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me,” Guimaraes said.
“But I wanted to experience something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family.”
The midfielder left Newcastle’s pre-season camp in La Manga, Spain, earlier this week to complete the transfer after the two clubs reached an agreement.
Guimaraes revealed he had already been contacted by several of his new Arsenal team-mates, including fellow Brazilian Gabriel and England midfielder Declan Rice.
Rice, who has previously gone head-to-head with Guimaraes in midfield, joked that the Brazilian should now join him rather than continue their battles.
“He told me, ‘come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends’,” Guimaraes said.
The new Arsenal signing added that the opportunity to compete for major honours was a major factor behind his decision.
“I’m at the point of my life, I think I need a challenge like this,” he said. “I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I’m in the right place to do it. I’m so excited to start.”
Newcastle lose influential captain
Guimaraes joined Newcastle in January 2022 when the club were battling relegation and quickly became an important figure in their transformation under former manager Eddie Howe.
He went on to help Newcastle qualify for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025 and became the first Newcastle captain in 70 years to lift a major domestic trophy when the Magpies defeated Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup final.
His departure represents a significant loss for Newcastle, particularly after he made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing nine goals and eight assists.
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season after their Champions League qualification, while Arsenal will hope Guimaraes can help them maintain their position at the top of English football.
