Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max Launches With These 12 New Features

While the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max are not scheduled to be released for more than five months, there are already numerous rumours surrounding the devices.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max Deep Red Feature
It was first reported that the iPhone 18 Pro models will feature totally under-screen Face ID, with only the front camera visible in the top-left corner of the screen.
However, the most recent rumours suggest that only one Face ID component will be relocated beneath the screen on the handsets, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island.
Below, we’ve recapped 12 features rumoured for the iPhone 18 Pro max variants as of April 2026:

- Red Color: The special colour for the iPhone 18 Pro variants is expected to be red.
- Smaller Dynamic Island: According to rumours, Face ID’s flood illuminator will be relocated beneath the screen on iPhone 18 Pro models, allowing for a smaller Dynamic Island on the smartphones.
- 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Display Sizes: The upcoming Pro versions are believed to have the same overall design as the iPhone 17 Pro models, with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays and a “plateau” that houses three back cameras.
- LTPO+ Displays: More power-efficient displays may lead to a longer battery life.
- Variable Aperture: The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera on both iPhone 18 Pro variants is rumoured to include a variable aperture, allowing users to alter the quantity of light that passes through the lens and onto the sensor. This would allow for better control over the depth of field. However, given that iPhones have smaller image sensors due to smartphone space limits, it is uncertain how significant this gain will be.
- A20 Pro Chip: Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro processor is projected to employ TSMC’s first-generation 2nm technology, as opposed to the A19 Pro chip, which is 3nm. With a 2nm architecture and a new packaging design, the A20 Pro chip is expected to bring significant year-over-year performance and power efficiency benefits.
- C2 Modem: Apple’s unique C1 cellular modem for 5G and LTE made its debut in the iPhone 16e last year, followed by a C1X chip in the iPhone Air. According to Apple, the C1X modem is up to twice as fast as the C1 modem and the most power-efficient modem in an iPhone ever. Improvements should continue with Apple’s third-generation C2 modem in the iPhone 18 Pro variants.
- N2 Chip: The majority of iPhone 17 variants and the iPhone Air include an Apple-designed N1 processor that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Apple claims that the N1 processor also improves the overall performance and reliability of functions such as Personal Hotspot and AirDrop. The iPhone 18 Pro variants are rumoured to include Apple’s next-generation N2 technology, but it is unclear what enhancements would come with this upgrade.
- A streamlined Camera Control button that does not require swiping gestures.
- Design improvements to the rear Ceramic Shield for MagSafe charging, possibly featuring a frosted glass appearance.
- Web browsing via satellite.
- The iPhone 18 Pro Max could be slightly thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, possibly to accommodate a larger battery.
Apple is anticipated to launch the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone in September, followed by a basic iPhone 18, a lower-end iPhone 18e, and possibly a second-generation iPhone Air early next year.
