“Any child your wife gives birth belongs to you, avoid DNA test” – Odumeje

Controversial cleric Chukwuemeka Odumeje has sparked reactions online after sharing his stance on DNA tests and paternity in marriage.
Speaking during a sermon, the cleric advised men to avoid DNA tests, stressing that such practices go against Igbo cultural beliefs about family and fatherhood.
“Desist from doing DNA, It’s against Igbo culture. Any child born by your wife regardless of who’s responsible belongs to you as long as nobody is coming out to claim it,” he said.
According to him, as long as no one is showing up to claim the child, there’s no need for a paternity test, with such practices considered taboo in Igbo culture.
While some supported his view, citing cultural values and trust in marriage, others strongly disagreed, arguing that DNA tests are important for clarity and truth.
One user wrote, “DNA tests don’t hurt anyone, I wouldn’t advise anyone to follow this advice.” Another added, “Where in Igbo culture is this? This man don start again.”
