Andrey Rublev Biography: Early Life, Career, Stats, Wife & Net Worth

Andrey Rublev (Born October tober 20, 1997) is a Russian professional tennis player. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has ranked him as high as world No. 5 in singles (on September 13, 2021) and No. 44 in doubles (on November 6, 2023).

Rublev has won 17 ATP Tour singles championships, including two ATP 1000 events, the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters and the 2024 Madrid Open. He has also won four Main Tour doubles championships, including an ATP 1000 event partnering Karen Khachanov at the Madrid Open in 2023.

Andrey Andreevich Rublev was born in Moscow to Andrey Rublev Sr., a former professional boxer who became a restaurant manager, and Marina Marenko, a tennis coach at the Spartak Tennis Club.

His mother worked with tennis players including Anna Kournikova and was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” in 2009. She is also the mother of Rublev’s older half-sister, Anna Arina Marenko, a former pro tennis player.

Career

Rublev made his debut in Luxembourg at the age of 13, winning his second tournament in Phoenix. Rublev advanced to the third round of singles in the following years, and in December 2012, he won the Orange Bowl, one of the most famous junior events.

Next, in the spring of 2013, Rublev won the NWU Pukke/RVTA Junior ITF 1 Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa. He participated successfully in subsequent competitions, particularly on clay surfaces, such as the Trofeo Bonfiglio in Milan. He reached the quarterfinals in the boys’ singles event at the 2014 Australian Open. In the boys’ doubles, he partnered with German Alexander Zverev, and they advanced to the quarterfinals.

His finest junior-level result came at the 2014 French Open, where he was declared champion in the boys’ singles. In the final, he defeated the Spanish player Jaume Munar. He also advanced to the semifinals, when he faced American Stefan Kozlov. Benjamin Bonzi and Quentin Halys, the eventual champions, overcame the pair. As a result of his strong performance in Paris, he was named the world’s top ITF Junior player on June 9, 2014. Rublev won the Nike Junior International at Roehampton, England, in June 2014, a few weeks before Wimbledon.

In the Wimbledon Championships, he advanced to the third round before losing to Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven in three sets. Rublev and Kozlov finished second in the doubles competition. Orlando Luz and Marcelo Zormann of Brazil defeated the pair in three sets.

Rublev had a vacation before competing in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, where he was the top seed in all three events. In singles, he lost to Kamil Majchrzak in three sets but won a bronze medal for defeating Jumpei Yamasaki.

Rublev advanced to the doubles finals with Karen Khachanov, but they were defeated once more by Brazilians Luz and Zormann.

He and his mixed partner Daria Kasatkina barely made it to the second round, as they were eliminated by silver medallists Ye Qiuyu and Yamazaki.

Rublev’s junior career came to an end in April 2015, as he won the first ITF Junior Masters in Chengdu. In the finals, he defeated American Taylor Fritz in three sets.

At the 2024 National Bank Open, he advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry and qualifier Brandon Nakashima, becoming the first man born in 1997 or later to do so, as well as the third man born in 1990 or later, following 1991-born Grigor Dimitrov and 1996-born Daniel Medvedev.

He was also the seventh player born after 1990 to complete the nine Masters 1000 career set, following Dominic Thiem (1993), Stefanos Tsitsipas (1998), Alexander Zverev (1997), Grigor Dimitrov (1991), Daniil Medvedev (1996), and Hubert Hurkacz (1997).

He advanced to the semifinals for the first time in Canada, having played two matches on the same day, with an upset over top seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner, his second victory over a world No. 1. He advanced to his sixth Masters 1000 final, defeating Matteo Arnaldi in straight sets before losing to Alexei Popyrin. At the end of the season, Rublev was rated eighth in the world. Rublev lost to 18-year-old Brazilian talent João Fonseca in straight sets in the 2025 Australian Open, his first Grand Slam competition.

The Russian won his first title of the season in Doha defeating Alexander Bublik, Nuno Borges, Alex de Minaur with which he earned his first top 10 win of the season, Félix Auger-Aliassime & Jack Draper in the final. With his title win, he finally won a tournament twice after winning 16 different titles.

Marat Safin was named Rublev’s new head coach before the clay season began. Rublev, the defending champion in Madrid, was upset by Bublik in the third round, dropping to No. 17, his lowest ranking since January 2020.

In the fourth round of the 2025 French Open, he fell to top seed Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He also made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

Rublev is an Orthodox Christian who is often seen crossing himself after matches. He is the godfather of Daniil Medvedev’s daughter Alisa.
