Amorim admits he doubted his Manchester United future

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed he doubted his future at the club during his turbulent first year in charge, admitting the struggles of last season left him wondering if he was the right man for the job.

As Amorim marks his one-year anniversary as United boss on Saturday, when his side face Nottingham Forest, the Portuguese tactician reflected on a challenging debut campaign.

United finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League, lost the Europa League final and won just one of their opening five league games this season, a run that pushed Amorim to his lowest point.

“There were some moments that were tough to deal with, losing so many games was so hard for me because this is Manchester United,” he said.

“The position we had last year, putting all the attention on the Europa League and not winning it, that was massive. I struggled a lot and thought maybe it wasn’t meant to be.”

Relief and renewed belief

Fast-forward to October, and the mood at Old Trafford has changed significantly. United have won five of their last seven Premier League matches, including victories over Chelsea and Liverpool, climbing to sixth and reigniting their push for European qualification.

“Today it’s the opposite,” Amorim continued. “Now I feel it was the best decision of my life. I want to be here, but for that, I need to keep winning, starting with Nottingham Forest.”

Staying grounded despite progress

Despite the improved results, Amorim cautioned against complacency, insisting that consistency remains the key challenge.

“It’s hard to say that the tough times are over,” he noted. “Football is full of ups and downs. I trust my players more, and they trust me more, that comes with wins.

“We are in a better place now, and we feel that, but we must stay alert and pay attention to the details,” he added.
