American tourists allegedly harassed by Lagos Police, phones searched during night stop

A Nigerian man has raised concern on social media after claiming that his American friends were stopped and questioned by police officers during a night outing in Lagos.
The incident was reported on the micro blogging platform, X by a netizen identified as @bizzleosikoya.

According to his account, the foreigners were accosted by officers who demanded to know what they were doing in Nigeria.
When the visitors responded that they were in the country for tourism, the officers allegedly questioned why anyone would choose to tour Nigeria.
Police allegedly search their phones
He further stated that the police proceeded to go through the tourists’ phones, asking questions about their emails and crypto applications. The man tagged the Nigeria Police Force in his post, expressing disappointment over the reported encounter.
