Alonso sweat over mixed Real Madrid injury update

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has received a mixed update on two key defenders, Eder Militao and David Alaba, as the club progresses toward the FIFA Club World Cup knockout rounds.

According to Marca, Militao is on track to feature against Juventus on July 1, marking a potential return to action after a second ACL injury suffered last November.

His recovery has progressed ahead of schedule, and he may be eased in with a bench appearance depending on match conditions.

The 26-year-old Brazilian’s determination to return for the Club World Cup has impressed the coaching staff, and Alonso is expected to gradually reintegrate him into the first-team setup this summer.

In contrast, the outlook for Alaba is far less optimistic. The Austrian defender is now expected to miss three weeks due to a persistent calf injury, effectively ruling him out of the Club World Cup.

Reports suggest Alaba could return to Madrid early to focus on rehabilitation.

Now 33 and in the final year of his contract, Alaba’s long-term future at the club is in doubt.

With his availability increasingly limited due to recurring fitness issues, Real Madrid are open to offloading the former Bayern Munich star should he fail to regain consistent match fitness.
