Al Ittihad reach €33m agreement for Ilenikhena

Al Ittihad have reached an agreement with AS Monaco over the transfer of Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena in a deal worth €33 million.
French journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that both clubs are aligned on the fee, with negotiations now ongoing between Al Ittihad and the player over personal terms.
The proposed move would see the 19-year-old make a high-profile switch from Ligue 1 to Saudi Arabia.
Monaco accept offer as talks shift to player
Monaco’s acceptance of the bid represents a significant return on their investment. The Principality club signed Ilenikhena from Royal Antwerp ahead of the 2023/24 season for €18.7m, and are now set to almost double that outlay less than two seasons later.
The striker has scored 10 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions since arriving in France, establishing himself as one of the club’s promising attacking options despite his age. His performances have also drawn interest from several clubs across Europe.

Benzema situation shapes Al Ittihad move
Ilenikhena is expected to arrive as part of Al Ittihad’s forward-planning amid uncertainty surrounding Karim Benzema’s future at the club.
The former Real Madrid striker has reportedly refused to play due to an unresolved contract dispute.
Reports indicate Benzema rejected a proposed extension that lacked a fixed base salary and relied heavily on image rights, prompting Al Ittihad to explore younger, long-term attacking solutions in the transfer market.
European interest fails to materialism
Before Al Ittihad moved decisively, Ilenikhena had been monitored by a number of European clubs. Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart were all credited with interest, alongside Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
Despite that attention, Monaco’s agreement with Al Ittihad places the Saudi club in pole position to secure the striker, subject to the successful conclusion of personal terms.
