“We fought once, social media made it worse” – Afeez Owo on separation rumours from Mide Martins

Nollywood actor Afeez Owo has shed light on a rough patch in his marriage with fellow actress and wife, Mide Martins, revealing that their much-talked-about 2016 separation rumours stemmed from the only major fight they’ve ever had.

Speaking in an interview with Behind The List, Afeez explained that the misunderstanding escalated unnecessarily and was worsened by social media.

He, however, admitted he didn’t handle the situation properly, which almost led to the end of their union.

“There was a time rumours spread that my wife and I had separated. In truth, that was the first and only serious fight we’ve ever had in our marriage. Thankfully, we reconciled and came back together.

“I admit I didn’t handle it well. I scattered things, and at some point, I even thought, ‘Is this how it’s going to end?’ Social media made it worse because it was something we should have resolved privately,” he said.

Recalling the incident, Afeez disclosed that, out of anger, he left home and stayed in a hotel for two days, while Mide took to social media claiming he had abandoned her and their children.

Despite the turbulence, the couple reconciled and have since remained together, with Afeez expressing gratitude that they overcame the challenge and preserved their marriage.

The actors, who have been married for over two decades, continue to be one of Nollywood’s admired celebrity couples, often admired for their on-screen and off-screen bond.
