AFCON team of tournament: four Nigerians make cut

Four Super Eagles players have been named in the Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament so far, released by statistics platform Whoscored.com following the conclusion of the quarterfinal stage.
Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams and Wilfred Ndidi earned selection after Nigeria’s commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria on Saturday, a result that secured a semifinal berth at AFCON 2025.
Nigeria’s dominance rewarded
Nigeria delivered one of their most controlled performances of the tournament at the Marrakech Stadium, restricting Algeria to zero shots on target and dictating play from start to finish.
Osimhen led the charge, scoring shortly after the restart before providing the assist for Adams to double the advantage.

Adams’ goal capped a sharp attacking display, while Lookman and Ndidi imposed themselves in midfield, combining energy and tactical awareness to shut down the Algerian threat.
Super Eagles well represented
Osimhen and Adams were selected to lead the forward line in the Team of the Tournament. Ndidi and Lookman were also included in midfield, joining Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Senegal’s Sadio Mané in a star-studded central unit.
At the back, Egypt’s Yasser Ibrahim and Ramy Rabia were named as the central defensive pairing, with Krépin Diatta of Senegal and Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui occupying the full-back positions.
Focus shifts to semi-final test
Nigeria remain one of four teams left in the competition, alongside hosts Morocco, Senegal and Egypt.
Attention now turns to a high-stakes semifinal clash against Morocco, where the Super Eagles will look to build on their momentum and push for a place in the final.
