AFCON 2025: Super Eagles offered $10,000 goal bonus to beat Mozambique

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will earn a $10,000 bonus for every goal scored against Mozambique in their Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 clash, as financial incentives around the team are increased ahead of the knockout phase.
The bonus package, equivalent to about ₦14 million per goal, applies to Monday’s fixture at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.
The incentive is being funded by a Nigerian business figure who is also a partner of the national team, continuing a rewards structure introduced earlier in the tournament.
Nigeria enter the knockout tie in confident attacking form, having scored eight goals across three Group C matches, a return that ranked them among the most productive sides in the group stage.

Incentives doubled after group stage
During the first round of the competition, the same partner rewarded the Super Eagles with $5,000 for every goal scored.
That figure has now been doubled as the stakes rise in the knockout rounds, reflecting a deliberate push to motivate the team as the tournament intensifies.
ThisDay reports chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, confirmed the arrangement while speaking to journalists in Rabat, stressing that financial motivation is part of a broader support framework.
“We have fully mobilized the Super Eagles to succeed in this tournament,” Dikko said. “On the part of the Federal Government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the AFCON Intervention Fund on November 14.”
He added that private-sector support has complemented government backing. “In addition, our partners and sponsors paid $5,000 per goal in the group stage and have now committed $10,000 per goal for the Round of 16. The incentives will continue to improve as the tournament progresses.”
Focus remains on performance
While the bonuses underline growing confidence in the team’s prospects, the Super Eagles’ technical crew have consistently played down distractions, insisting that performance and results remain the priority as Nigeria chase a place in the quarter-finals.
The Mozambique encounter represents a decisive test, with victory guaranteeing progression and defeat ending Nigeria’s campaign.
The Super Eagles are among the tournament favourites and have been under pressure to at least reach the latter stages of the competition.
Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm on Monday in Fes, where Nigeria will look to convert goals to financial rewards.
