AFCON 2025: Nwabali allays injury fears, joins Super Eagles camp in Cairo

Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 preparations received a boost on Sunday as first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali reported to the Super Eagles’ camp in Cairo.

The Chippa United shot-stopper became the second player to arrive, joining Francis Uzoho, who opened camp in the early hours of Sunday.

Nwabali’s presence is significant, coming amid speculation over an injury that had cast doubt on his availability for the tournament.

Injury concerns put to rest

His arrival effectively cools off those concerns and provides reassurance to head coach Eric Chelle and his technical crew as preparations intensify in Egypt.

Uzoho sets early tone

Uzoho, recalled to the squad, had earlier set the pace by arriving shortly after 2:00 am local time, proving his readiness for national duty.

Camp gathers momentum

With both goalkeepers now in camp, the Super Eagles’ build-up is gaining momentum. All members of the coaching and backroom staff are already settled at the Renaissance Hotels in Cairo, while the rest of the squad is expected to arrive in the coming days.

Recall Nigeria will face Egypt in a friendly on December 16 before travelling to Fès for their AFCON Group C fixtures against Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.

The opener against Tanzania is scheduled for Tuesday, December 23.
