AFCON 2025: Akor Adams leaves Super Eagles camp to attend to hospitalised mother

Super Eagles forward, Akor Adams, has been granted leave from the national team camp following the hospitalisation of his mother.

The 25-year-old striker, who scored in Nigeria’s recent AFCON fixture, dedicated his goal to his mother, who was unable to attend the match in Morocco.

Adams said, “First, glory to God for the privilege to score my AFCON goal, but this goal is dedicated to my mom. She was supposed to be here, but she was admitted to the hospital earlier today. Thankfully, she is now much better.”

Following the incident, the Super Eagles management approved Adams’ temporary leave to be with his family. Sources confirm he is expected to return to camp ahead of Nigeria’s quarter-final clash scheduled for Saturday.

Adams’ gesture has resonated with fans, who have commended him for prioritising family while maintaining his professionalism on the field.

The former Sogndal forward has been instrumental in Nigeria’s recent tournament performances, and his dedication on and off the pitch continues to draw praise.

The team, under Head Coach Eric Chelle, is now preparing rigorously for the knockout stage, ensuring that player welfare and focus remain paramount as they face the winner of Algeria versus DR Congo in Marrakech.

Adams’ brief absence is not expected to affect Nigeria’s preparations, with the squad set to regroup and maintain momentum for their quarter-final showdown.
