ADC invites Datti Baba-Ahmed to coalition despite allegations of deception

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to recent comments by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, dismissing his criticism of the opposition coalition as “personal opinions” that do not represent the party’s stance.
Baba-Ahmed, while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, had accused the coalition of “deceiving Nigerians” and argued it was incapable of rescuing the country from underdevelopment.
In a statement signed by Jackie Wayas, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to building a united opposition bloc ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the ADC emphasised that the coalition was formed following extensive consultations to prioritise national interest over partisan divides.
The party recalled that Obi had publicly endorsed the ADC coalition as the platform for the 2027 elections, emphasising that no single group can change Nigeria alone and calling for unity to dismantle poverty and insecurity.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed’s assertions are his personal opinions and do not reflect the position of the ADC or its coalition partners,” Wayas stated.
While dismissing his remarks, the ADC described Baba-Ahmed as a respected voice and extended an invitation for him to join the coalition.
“Since the coalition is a collective effort that requires the strength and skills of all patriots, we sincerely hope he comes on board to contribute to this shared vision for a better Nigeria,” the statement added.
Reiterating its mission to unite opposition forces, the ADC urged Nigerians to rally behind the coalition, insisting it offers a credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2027.
