ADC alleges APC plot to destabilise party by pressure INEC into taking illegal action

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a plot to destabilise its leadership through alleged political pressure and planned protests.
In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, claimed that recent developments point to what he described as a “desperate” attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the opposition party.
Allegations of Pressure on INEC
Abdullahi alleged that agents linked to the APC had earlier tried to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking what he termed “illegal action” against the ADC.
According to him, the move followed what he described as a “milestone movement” involving Rabiu Kwankwaso and his association with the ADC.
He claimed that these efforts were unsuccessful after meeting resistance from the electoral body.
Planned Protest Raises Concerns
The ADC further alleged that a new strategy is now in motion, involving a planned protest in Abuja scheduled for Thursday, April 2.
Abdullahi claimed that the demonstration is being sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister,” although no name was mentioned.
He stated that the protest would allegedly feature a paid crowd posing as dissatisfied party members, with the aim of calling for the removal of David Mark from a leadership position within the party.
According to the statement, the objective is to create public pressure on INEC to recognise an individual who, the ADC insists, has already resigned and been expelled from the party.
ADC Raises Alarm Over Political Interference
The party described the alleged actions as part of a broader attempt by the APC to “hijack” its leadership, warning that such moves threaten democratic processes and opposition stability.
Abdullahi maintained that the ADC remains committed to lawful conduct but would resist any form of interference through legal means.
Call to the Presidency
In a direct appeal, the spokesperson urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene if those behind the alleged actions are acting without his approval.
“If they are not acting on his orders, President Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” the statement read.
As of the time of reporting, the APC and relevant government officials have not publicly responded to the allegations.
