EPL: Arokodare provides assist as Wolves stun Liverpool at home

Wolves pulled off a dramatic 94th-minute victory over Liverpool at Molineux, leaving the defending Premier League champions stunned.

Andre’s deflected strike completed the turnaround after Mohamed Salah had equalised following Rodrigo Gomes’ opener.

Wolves fight to the final whistle

Bottom-of-the-table Wolves celebrated a rare league win, their third of the season, despite being 11 points adrift of safety. Substitute Andre’s injury-time winner, which deflected off Joe Gomez, sparked wild scenes among home fans and handed Liverpool another heartbreak in stoppage time.

Rob Edwards’ side had taken the lead earlier when Rodrigo Gomes capitalised on a quick combination with Tolu Arokodare, who held off Virgil van Dijk before setting up the strike.

Liverpool responded almost immediately, with Salah netting his first Premier League goal since November after a mistake from Jean Ricner-Bellegarde.

Despite Liverpool controlling possession for much of the match, their dominance rarely tested Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa. Liverpool had even seen 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha strike the post before Salah’s equaliser.

Late drama shows inconsistent season

For Liverpool, the defeat prevented them from closing the gap on third-placed Manchester United and Aston Villa, leaving them fifth on 51 points.

Wolves, meanwhile, continue to defy expectations at home, having beaten Liverpool and Aston Villa and drawn with Arsenal in their last three league fixtures.

Before kick-off, both sets of fans paid tribute to former Wolves and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash last July, with banners displayed across Molineux.

The two sides meet again at the same venue on Friday in the FA Cup fifth round, providing Wolves with another chance to test Liverpool on home soil.
