2027: Why I will support Tinubu and do everything to ensure he wins – Asari Dokubo

Asari Dokubo, a former militant leader and the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema Local Government Area, has pledged to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Dokubo made the declaration while receiving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at his palace, alongside the Rivers State Elders Council. The visit was part of Wike’s “thank you tour.”
Dokubo’s Commitment to Tinubu
During the meeting, the former militant leader expressed his readiness to mobilise strong support for the president under the “Renewed Hope Family” initiative led by Wike.
He explained that his loyalty stems from the support Tinubu gave him during challenging times.
“Everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the President, succeeds. Everything I am capable of doing, I will do to ensure his success,” Dokubo said.
Reflecting on their long-standing relationship, he added, “I was not a traditional ruler when we met in 1992. I never imagined I would become what I am today. He stood by me in my most difficult period, and now it is my turn to stand by him.”
Wike Hails Collaboration with Traditional Leaders
Speaking during the visit, Wike said his tour of the state’s local government areas has been warmly received by both residents and community leaders, acknowledging the support they gave him and the president during the 2023 general election.
He noted that his friendship with Dokubo goes beyond politics, stressing the importance of personal bonds over party affiliation.
“You are my friend, and there is no way I would come to your kingdom without greeting you and wishing you a happy new year. Here, we have shut the door. No other person other than Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Just follow our steps and the right thing will be done,” Wike said.
The minister also assured residents that past errors in the 2023 Rivers State governorship election would be addressed.
“This is the only state where the two major political parties are working together to return Tinubu in 2027. That is why we are no longer talking about party politics but about renewed hope,” he added.
