2027: I’m willing to abandon my presidential ambition to support younger candidate – Atiku

A key figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has stated his willingness to step aside in the 2027 presidential race for a younger, dynamic, and widely acceptable candidate from the party.
Atiku made the disclosure in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, emphasizing that his interest in the 2027 election is not driven by personal ambition but by the desire to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.

Atiku urges young Nigerians to contest
He urged younger Nigerians to actively engage in politics and assured them of his full and unrestrained support should they be chosen to contest for the presidency.
Atiku denies desperation claims
Addressing speculation about his intentions, Atiku denied claims that he is desperate for the presidency, insisting that his primary goal is to rescue Nigeria from what he described as prolonged mismanagement by those who have “held it hostage.”
According to him, his contesting for presidency is not in anyway impeding or stopping others from running for the position.
“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku stated.
