2027: “I’m not confident of ADC presidential ticket” – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has admitted that he might not secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obi’s remarks come amid growing speculation about his political future and the challenges he may face within the ADC, a smaller opposition party compared to his former platform, the Labour Party.
In a video message to his supporters, Obi said:
“Someone asked me how I know for sure that the ADC will give me the presidential ticket. I cannot be certain. What matters is that we are committed to a cause. I keep wondering how we ended up in this situation and what might happen if we decide to stop working on this project.”
He emphasized that he remains committed to his goals and has not let reported threats deter him.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate also praised his supporters for their resilience, acknowledging the challenges of working within opposition politics in Nigeria.
“I thank you for your sacrifice. It’s not easy to be in the opposition in Nigeria, and I’m thankful to those who keep supporting even when there’s no clear reward,” he said.
Obi officially joined the ADC on December 31, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, ending months of speculation about his political future.
He explained that his decision to leave the Labour Party came after he was informed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise the party’s leadership as long as he remained there, effectively blocking his path to contest the next election from that platform.
