2027 Election: “If Peter Obi becomes a running mate, I’ll work against it” – Aisha Yesufu

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has sparked fresh political debate following a strong statement concerning Nigeria’s 2027 general election.

According to her, she will not support any political ticket in which former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is presented as a running mate.

Speaking plainly, Yesufu said:

“If Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone in 2027, I will work against that ticket in my little capacity.”

The activist, who was notably vocal during the 2023 general elections, explained that she has observed a recurring trend in Nigerian politics where, in her view, the most competent candidates are often pushed into secondary roles while less capable individuals are positioned as presidential flag bearers.

Her remarks have attracted widespread attention, particularly among Nigerians who continue to regard Obi as a leading political figure rather than a subordinate option in future electoral arrangements.

Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, has remained central to discussions ahead of the 2027 election.

His reported association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his exit from the Labour Party, has further intensified political conversations.

With political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Obi all linked to 2027 ambitions, the number of aspirants reportedly seeking the ADC’s presidential nomination continues to grow.

Although Yesufu offered no further clarification, her message was clear that any political arrangement which sidelines Peter Obi in the next general election will not receive her support.
