2027: APC begins registration drive as 11 states pledge 15m votes for Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a sweeping membership registration campaign across multiple states, as part of its intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Investigations by Sunday PUNCH confirm that the registration exercise is already underway in at least seven states, with more states gearing up to join the mobilisation effort.

The mass registration drive is central to the party’s strategy to consolidate its political dominance and secure re-election for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. No fewer than 11 state chapters of the APC have reportedly pledged to deliver a combined 15 million votes in support of Tinubu’s second-term bid.

During the party’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Thursday at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation, membership expansion, and unity within the party. He disclosed that a committee comprising senior APC stakeholders and members of the National Working Committee would soon be constituted to oversee the nationwide registration process.

“More members are still coming. So, if we accommodate the congresses in December, that will be making room for those who are still coming… our doors are still open, and we should embrace them wholeheartedly,” the President said.

He further welcomed recent defections from the opposition, including those of Governors Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, emphasising that the APC remains open to opposition members who wish to join the ruling party.

Newly elected APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, echoed the President’s call for unity and expansion. Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Yilwatda noted that the APC, despite controlling 23 states and 70 Senate seats, was determined to “do the legwork” needed to attract more members and governors from the opposition.

“My job is to unite the party and to expand the party… We’ll do the legwork, we’ll bring them in,” he said.

The mass registration campaign is already active in Ebonyi, Delta, Enugu, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, and Akwa Ibom states, with others expected to begin shortly. Pro-Tinubu support groups and party structures in various states have also pledged their commitment to delivering massive voter turnout for the President in the next election.

This strategic mobilisation effort comes amid growing political tension and the emergence of a revitalised opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has vowed to challenge the APC’s hold on power in 2027.
