2026 WCQ playoffs: Iwobi exposes poor hotel condition hosting Super Eagles in Rabat

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has sparked outrage after sharing a video exposing the deplorable hotel conditions where the Nigerian team is lodged ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Gabon.

About ten Super Eagles players have already arrived in Rabat, Morocco, for the crucial clash set for Thursday, November 13. A win will secure Nigeria a spot in the final playoff against either Cameroon or DR Congo.

Fans react to the disgraceful lodging condition

In the muted footage posted by Iwobi on social media, the hotel’s poor state was laid bare, showing an unkempt courtyard with clothes hanging around and visible signs of neglect.

The video quickly went viral, with fans and social media users venting frustration over the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) handling of the national team’s welfare.

One X user commented, “If we check the budget wey FG approve for the hotel, e go dey enter Billion.”

Another wrote, “These boys are representing us as a nation and yet this is what the NFF can give as accommodation! The disrespect to our team is because our football association doesn’t take care of its own.”

A third lamented, “Do we not value our citizens enough to treat our footballers decently? The NFF is really dropping the ball. How can a must-win team be placed in this kind of environment?”

Key players already in camp

Among those who have reported to camp are Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, William Troost-Ekong, Benjamin Frederick, and Chidozie Awaziem.

The controversy adds to mounting pressure on the NFF ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier.
