2026 WCQ: Chelle labels Super Eagles vs Benin clash ‘most important game of my career’
Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has described Tuesday evening’s World Cup qualifying clash against Benin Republic as the most important match of his managerial career.
The Malian tactician is seeking to guide Nigeria to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with victory over their West African neighbours crucial to keeping that dream alive.
The Super Eagles will host the Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, knowing that only a win can sustain their qualification hopes.
‘I like the pressure’
Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Chelle admitted that the occasion comes with mixed emotions but expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.
“For me, as a coach, it’s maybe the most important game of my career,” he said.
“I’m happy, I’m excited, sometimes a little nervous, but I like the pressure.”
Kick-off set for 5 PM
The high-stakes encounter between Nigeria and Benin Republic will kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time, with both teams eyeing a decisive result in their Group C campaign.
