17-year-old Yobe girl, Nafisa beats 20,000 students from 69 countries, becomes world best in English

A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, has been crowned the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London.
Representing Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa stood out among more than 20,000 students from 69 countries, clinching the top spot in a competition that tests English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills.
The TeenEagle competition, known for its rigorous assessments, draws participants from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries, making Nafisa’s win even more significant.
Reacting to her achievement, Hassan Salifu, the head of her family, praised her discipline and commitment, while also acknowledging the support of the Yobe State Government.
“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation,” Salifu said.
He emphasized that Nafisa outperformed students from native English-speaking nations, describing the win as a reflection of her hard work and Nigeria’s growing educational standards.
Celebrations have erupted across Yobe following the announcement, with many hailing Nafisa as a symbol of excellence and pride.
Her family also extended gratitude to the management and staff of NTIC for their role in shaping her academic journey.
“Nafisa’s success is a testament to the power of educational investment. Governor Buni’s commitment has not only transformed schools in the state but also positioned Yobe and Nigeria on the global stage,” the family added.
