10 most expensive signings of the summer as Premier League clubs dominate spending

Premier League clubs dominated the summer transfer market, featuring in eight of the 10 most expensive deals as spending in England’s top flight reached a record £3.5 billion.

Manchester City led the way, completing two of the three biggest transfers of the window, while Chelsea and Tottenham were also heavily involved among the biggest deals.

The most expensive move saw Manchester City sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million on transfer deadline day.

The Argentina midfielder became the Premier League’s most expensive signing, with City making him their latest major addition as they reshaped their squad.

Chelsea responded with the second-biggest deal, paying £117 million for England attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

Manchester City then spent £116 million to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, briefly making the England midfielder the most expensive British player before Rogers’ move to Chelsea overtook him.

Real Madrid’s £115.7 million signing of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande was the only deal involving a club outside the Premier League among the top four.

Liverpool also broke the £100 million mark, signing France forward Bradley Barcola from Paris St-Germain for an initial £106 million. The deal could eventually reach £123 million with add-ons.

Tottenham were next, paying £92.5 million for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali. Spurs also spent £85 million on Portugal midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.

Manchester City continued their spending with an £81.4 million deal for 18-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who arrived as part of the club’s midfield rebuild.

Tottenham’s £75 million signing of Brazilian winger Savinho and Arsenal’s £75 million move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes completed the top 10.
