USAIN BOLT claimed his THIRD gold medal as Jamaica won the men’s 4x100m relay — setting a new world record in the process.

The Jamaican quartet of Bolt, Yohan Blake, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater were too good for their nearest rivals, a US team boasting the talents of Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin.

Bolt received the baton with Jamaica already in the lead and crossed the line in 36.85 seconds, smashing the previous record of 37.04sec and Olympic record of 37.10sec.

Carter and Frater produced excellent first and second legs but it was 100m and 200m silver medallist Blake’s blistering third leg that set the platform.

And Bolt provided the perfect finale — exploding clear to leave America’s Ryan Bailey trailing as the capacity crowd at the Olympic Stadium stood to applaud him.

Canada were initially given bronze before being disqualified when third-leg runner Jared Connaughton was seen to have stepped inside his lane, resulting in Trinidad and Tobago being promoted to third.
