Today, another fight broke out between Nigerians and Americans on Twitter, and it is over Egusi soup.
Popular blog The Shade Room uploaded a photo of a plate of Egusi soup and Fufu and asked people to name the food. But Americans following the blog made banters and used derogatory terms to describe the food, comments which Nigerians on the page didn’t find funny. There were clapbacks, and it all has since degenerated into a messy feud.
And this is not the first time Nigerians would get embroiled in a fight with Americans on the popular blog.
Recall that last month, rapper Wale visited Nigeria for Toolz Oniru’s traditional marriage and he uploaded the photo of he and Olamide hanging out in Lagos. Not longer after, Wale’s fans hopped on the post to drag Olamide, calling him gay – their anger was that he was wearing sandals, a Giuseppe Zanotti sandals prized at $845, which they said made him look like a homosexual. You can read all about the brutal fight here.
Now, it is Nigerians again and American fighting over food, a sad development as this would have been an opportunity to learn about a different culture.
