Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, has congratulated rival Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Real Madrid star beat him to the 2013 Ballon d’Or prize on Monday.
Messi, who has won the award four times in a row, came second behind the Portuguese, while Franck Ribery ended up in third. Although Messi also had a remarkable year, it was not enough to topple Ronaldo, who he described as a just winner.
“I want to congratulate Cristiano because he was the winner and deservedly so. I think it was a good year for the three of us and that’s why we were there,” Messi told reporters after the ceremony.“I have nothing to complain about or make any excuses.”
